Director of Mining - £70,000
This is a significant new
appointment to provide leadership and management of a broad ranging technical team based in Stoke, with
particular emphasis on the energy minerals, geotechnics and hydrogeology. The role also includes playing a
major part in the future and development ofWA’s mining services and will include the following
responsibilities:
Involvement in business decisions,
the strategic development of the mining sector business and the business plan.
Responsible to (Managing Director) for financial
performance and strategic developments.
Liaising and working with Phil Newall, Director for Mining & Mineral Services, on operational and Business
Development matters.
Management of the Stoke based Technical Directors and technical teams, including responsibility for
staffing, deployment, performance, quality, bidding, deliverables, discipline and the efficient running of
the group.
Financial accountability for the Stoke based group, including budgeting, turnover, margins, invoicing,
purchasing, outlays, expenses and debtors (within the Scheme of Financial Delegation) and meeting
targets for contribution to profits.
Business development and selling ofWA’s range of mining services, with particular responsibility for
energy minerals, in accordance with the business plan and budgets and targets agreed each year.
Management and delivery of client projects and contributing to other projects; it is expected that the
Director will have a deployment of about 60% on chargeable work.
Responsibility for specific initiatives or overseas offices as agreed with or delegated by the Board of
Directors.
The person
The appointed person will demonstrate enthusiasm and drive and will strive for excellence in all aspects of the
position. You will be a team player and have the ability to help, motivate, develop and inspire others.
Technical expertise, qualifications and experience are of course essential but attitude is paramount. We are a
people business and it is the quality and attitude of our people that make the difference.
Candidates should have a technical background to degree or equivalent level and experience in the mining
industry, most likely as a geologist or mining engineer; specific experience with the coal sector is essential.
You should also be able to demonstrate a breadth and depth of knowledge and experience in how the mining
sector operates, including financing, operations, management and bringing mining projects through
exploration, feasibility, implementation and closure.
Consultancy experience is preferred but not essential, however you should demonstrate an understanding of
the procurement and management of professional and technical services, entrepreneurship and an aptitude to
developing business with clients at all levels of the industry. Management experience and leadership qualities
will also be taken into account in selecting the appointed person.
